The DuPage Co Trade Apprenticeship Expo | Posted 10/28/22
For the past few years, the DuPage County Building & Construction Trades Council has sponsored the DuPage County Trade Apprenticeship Expo. CISCO (Construction Industry Service Corporation) co-sponsors the popular event, which encourages high-school students and post-graduates from the area to explore a career with the building trades. This year’s expo will be held on Thursday, November 10th from 3:30pm -6:30pm.

"It’s our opportunity to throw open the doors and invite everyone to come in – residents, students, parents, guidance counselors, teachers – and learn what each trade is about," said PowerForward DuPage Executive Director Karyn Charvat. The expo is held at the IBEW Local 701 Union Hall (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers), home to PowerForward DuPage. The expo started in 2018 when Charvat noticed a gap forming in the trade industries.

"With the baby boomers retiring, they are really going to be leaving quite a gap in the workforce," she said. “And realizing younger generations don’t necessarily have the interest in the trades that other generations before them once did, we knew there needed to be some external effort, on behalf of all the trades.” During the expo, attendees interact with over a dozen of DuPage County’s building and construction trade affiliates and learn about each organization’s apprenticeship program and the benefits unique to each affiliate.

The event is free to attend, but advance registration is required. To register, go to https://powerforwarddupage.com/registration/

Military Opportunities | Posted 4/7/22
The Junior and Senior years are the time to consider the prospect of joining the military. Juniors and seniors can talk with a military recruiter to learn more about what the military has to offer and the various ways to join the military. If you are under 18, your parents must be present when meeting with a recruiter. Most students join the military by enlisting after high school. However, another way to join the military is to attend college and participate in an ROTC program. Students who join an ROTC program can commission into the military upon graduation. Most commission in as an officer. This is a great way to have the military help pay for your college. If you enlist, you can also use the GI Bill to pay for college after your time of service is over. For more information about paying for college through the military, see Mrs. McAnally. If you’d like to meet with a recruiter, see Mrs. McAnally for the name of the recruiter for the particular branch you are interested in. She can help you set up an initial appointment.

Volunteer Opportunity | Posted 2/22/22
The Kendall County Historical Society is looking for students to fill and hide Easter eggs. This is a great way to get some volunteer hours. They need help the weekend before Easter weekend to fill the eggs, and then the Saturday before Easter to hide the eggs. If you are interested, please see Mrs. Mac for more information.

2022-2023 Registration | Posted 2/4/22
Incoming Freshmen will register on Wednesday, February 9th at 6:30pm in the Student Center at the high school. Students were given registration materials at their perspective schools or they were mailed home. Students should bring proof of residency forms, birth certificate, and office registration forms to registration night if they were not already turned in to the school office. In addition, students should bring the green class selection form with them the night of registration. This form must be filled out and signed, as it will be collected that night. If you have any questions about any of the above forms or did not receive forms in the mail or at school, please call the school office at 815-695-5164 and ask for Christi.

Current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will register during SRT the week of February 14. Students will NOT be allowed to register unless the registration form is filled out AND signed by a parent. Students who want to assure the classes they request are what they would like to receive in their schedule should make sure to follow the procedures and guidelines. It is important to remember: registration of classes is the procedure by which students request their preferences, but it is not a guarantee that those classes will actually fit into a student's schedule once the master schedule is created. Therefore, students need to request as many classes as possible so if there are conflicts in the master schedule, Mrs. McAnally will have options to design a complete schedule. Students should also make sure to number their class requests by preference with 1 being the most important, 2 the second most important, 3 the next most important, etc. This way, Mrs. McAnally knows how best to design the student's schedule. If parents or students have any questions concerning registration or scheduling, please reach out to Mrs. McAnally at mmcanally@nchs18.org.

Hope for College Now organization | Posted 9/13/21
Attention Students: It has come to my attention that there is a company called Hope for College Now that is sending out invitations by mail to our students. This invitation is for a free personal one-on-one meeting to learn about how they can maximize your acceptance to college, scholarship offers, and financial aid for a fee. Please be careful. While the meeting is legitimate, the offer is for you to pay a large sum of money so they can help you get into college. Guess what? Your school counselor can do that for free!! Please be wary of such offers! If you'd like more information on how to determine legitimate scholarship, admission, and financial aid offers, please see Mrs. McAnally.

New Dual Credit Class to be Offered Fall 2021 at NCHS | Posted 5/25/21
In the fall of 2021, NCHS will offer it’s first ever dual credit course within our high school walls. The course will be a music survey course that corresponds with JJC’s Music 102 course. This course is “…a survey course dealing with important people and trends in the evolution and development of American musical culture from colonial times to the present.” Ms. Chase will teach the course and the course will be a semester-long course. This course will replace Music Technology for the 2021 school year. If you are interested in taking this course, please let Mrs. McAnally know as soon as possible. The cost for the course is $50. Students who fall below the poverty line and receive a free or reduced fee lunch from the school are eligible to take the course for free. For questions or more information, please contact Ms. Chase or Mrs. McAnally.

Interested in other dual credit opportunities? Rising juniors and seniors can take courses through JJC or WCC for dual credit. These can be on-campus courses or online courses. To take a college course for dual credit, please see Mrs. McAnally with an idea of what you would like to take. You must fill out college paperwork in Mrs. McAnally’s office in order to register for a dual credit course, and may need to take the appropriate placement tests before registering. Once you complete the course, you must pay to have an official college transcript sent to Mrs. McAnally and she will then add the credit to your transcript. For more information, please see Mrs. McAnally.
